Protecting Your Family From Indoor Mold Clearing the air your family breathes could be a matter of controlling moisture inside the home. Saturday December 20th, 2008 (NAPSI)-According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), indoor Mold can grow on almost any surface, and the spores that are released by Mold can cause everything from blurred vision and chronic cough to skin rash, sore throat and sinus congestion. A Yale University study has concluded that Mold exposure during the first years of life may even increase the risk of asthma. An excess of moisture in the home can also lead to cracked paint, peeling wallpaper and moisture bubbles on the surface of walls. Since Mold can be found in warm and humid musty environments such as damp bathrooms, NIEHS recommends venting bathrooms to the outside, and running fans or vents while bathing or showering. The good news is that new types of fans offer homeowners a variety of options for Mold control. The new Heater/Fan/Lights from Broan and NuTone even feature a 1,500-watt heater for warmth after a shower or bath and quiet fan operation. While the fan should not be mounted directly over the shower or tub, the heater outlets are directionally user adjustable, allowing the heat to flow in any direction. Offered with both incandescent and fluorescent California Title 24-compliant lightbulbs, the Heater/ Fan/Light is available in four models: Broan 100HL (incandescent) and 100HFL (fluorescent); and NuTone 765HL (incandescent) and 765HFL (fluorescent). The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America estimates that 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. It's thought that fighting Mold in the home could help many of them find some relief.
